A Royal Returns to the Family

Ole Kehlet, of Kehlet Business Machines, showing off one of his treasures

Kehlet Typewriter & Fax Company at 1926 16th Street, Sacramento, California
.
Ole pulled out this Royal Quiet De Luxe, a special gold-plated executive gift version of the QDL. The case is in beautiful condition, and the machine itself shows a wear patina of having been lovingly used.
.
Also lovingly used is my 1924 Royal No. 10, ready for many more letters to grandchildren and other typing correspondents.
.
.
I'm looking forward to planting myself on my leather chair and having a Royal good chat with some good folks.

  1. What a nice find! A typewriter repair shop with such a passionate owner in your neighborhood is amazing to have!

  2. It's great that you found yet another typewriter shop in California, I wonder if Richard has Ole Kehlet listed in his directory. There was a repair shop here in Chicago but unfortunately, it had closed shop before I got into typewriters.

    Your Royal 10 is precious!

  3. He's on Mr. Polt's list, but now he can update the list to include a new user testimonial :D

And yes, typewriter repair guys are full of the talk and helpful suggestions - I still can't visit Bill Wahl without spending at least an hour chatting about typewriter stuff. I've learned to budget the time, cuz it's gonna get spent! :D

  4. Wonderful. I did have him in my directory but have now added a link to your report.

I'd like nothing better than to take a year off and visit all the typewriter shops in the United States. Since that's impossible, maybe a tour by Google Street View is in order...

  5. Nice one? nice one. I have yet to profile my local Brisbane guy, despite having profiled a repairer in Melbourne not so long ago.

  6. That is a great looking typewriter! Nice to find something like that in the trash. Thanks for the nice report on Kehlet's shop. Now I have another reason to visit my daughter.
